HC upholds deletions regarding NRIs in PGET Notification

Chandigarh, July 24 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today upheld the deletion of the categories III and IV of clause 39 from the PGET Notification issued by the Punjab Government.

A spokesman of Punjab Medical Education and Research Department said that the Punjab Government had removed Category III and Category IV from Clause 39 of the notifications pertaining to admission to under graduate as well as postgraduate degree and diploma medical courses for the session 2007.

Category III refers to "NRI-sponsored candidates" and Category IV refers to "Indians who were ready to pay in foreign currency (US dollars)".

The spokesman said that CWP No. 10097 of 2007 regarding deletion of these categories came up for final argument today.

Two to Three similar writ petitions were also listed for hearing with this petition. After hearing the detailed arguments by Suvir Sehgal, Additional Advocate General Punjab and others, the Division Bench disposed of the main writ petition.

All other similar writ petitions listed today were also dismissed.
