Girl commits suicide, another pushed into river

Barrackpore, Jul 24 (UNI) A young girl was found hanging at her house at Baranagar in North 24 Parganas here today.

Police suspect that Rumpa Sashmal might have committed suicide as she was unsuccessful in her BSc Part II examinations, the results of which were declared yesterday.

The body was sent for postmortem, police added.

In a seperate incident, another young girl of nearby Sinthi was declared 'brought dead' at R G Kar Medical College and Hospital after she was rushed there from Sarbamangala Ghat of the Ganges yesterday.

Police said she was rescued from the river by some local people when one of the two youths accompanying her pushed her into the river and fled away in a motorbike. On being rushed to the hospital she was declared 'brought dead'.

A case was registered and investigation was on. Police said two Sinthi youths were taken into custody.
