Dairy co-ops record high growth in milk procurement

Chandigarh, July 24 (UNI) Dairy Cooperatives in Haryana procured 298 lakh litres of milk during the period from April to June this year as against 247 lakh litres procured during corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 20.6 per cent.

This was stated Haryana Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Harmohinder Singh Chatha here today.

He said during the year 2006-07, Dairy Cooperatives had procured 1680 lakh litres of milk as against 1468.3 lakh litres during 2005-06 which was a record increase of 14.4 per cent.

''This comes to 4,60,200 litres of milk per day during 2006-07 as against 4,02,000 litres per day (LPD) during 2005-06,'' he added.

The milk procurement during December 2006 touched an all time high figure of 7, 80,000 LPD against highest of 6, 75,000 LPD last year.

Mr Chatha said Haryana Dairy Development Cooperatives Federation had chalked out an ambitious action plan for the current financial year under which target had been fixed to reach the average milk procurement per day to 5.5 lakh litres and liquid milk marketing to reach 3.41 lakh litres per day.
