Bangalore to have Mono and Metro rail systems: Kumaraswamy
Bangalore, July 24 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today said the state government had decided to introduce Mono Rail along with Metro rail as part of providing mass transportation in Bangalore city.
Replying to a query raised by Mr Dinesh Gundurao in the Legislative Assembly, he said the process of identifying consultants for the projects had begun and two companies had been identified.
Work on the Mono Rail would begin in August.
Stating that the Mono Rail project would be based on public- private participation, the CM said the four starting points of the rail network would start from Kanakapura, Banneraghatta, Mysore Road and Tumkur Road.
Paucity of proper public transport system like Metro had led to unprecedented increase in the number of private vehicles in the city which were estimated to be at 23 lakh, 70 per cent of which were two wheelers which cause traffic congestion in most of the vital roads in the city.
