Authorities continue Flood alert despite there is respite from rain

Mysore, July 24 (UNI) Despite there is respite from rain to the people of Kodagu district, the authorities have continued flood alert since all the inflow would be discharged from Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) and Kabini Reservoirs in which the water level has already reached maximum level.

People were put to great hardship during the last 15 days as heavy rain lashed the Kodagu district.

It may be recalled that due to early onset of south west monsoon in the catchment areas the water level in both the reservoirs had reached full level last week itself and flood situation was witnessed with combined discharge from KRS and Kabini being 1.40 lakh cusecs last week.

Today's discharge from these reservoirs were maintained at 18,000 cusecs and whatever the inflow would be discharged to maintain safety of the dams and hence the flood alert was continued despite rain fall has reduced in the catchment areas, according to official sources.
