Anganvadi centres to become pre-primary schools in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, July 24 (UNI) Kerala Health and Social Welfare Minister P K Sreemathy today told the State Assembly that the Government was seriously considering upgrading. Anganvadi centres into pre-primary schools in a phased manner.

Replying to questions by Mr K V Kunhiraman (CPM) and others, she said the new curricula for Anganvadi would be introduced this year itself.

Stating that the revised curricula was prepared mainly concentrating on children, she said the Government's plan was to prepare an uniform syllabus in the State.

Ms Sreemathy said those helpers who had completed ten years of service and had the required qualification would be promoted as Anganvadi workers.

Pointing out that out of the 28,138 anganvadis, only 15,794 had their own buildings, she said the Government would construct buildings for them on the basis of availability of land with local bodies.
