Hyderabad, July 24 (UNI) Conceding the demand of the CPI, CPI(M) and TRS, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today announced the Constitution of a Nodal Committee under his Chairmanship in two to four weeks to oversee the implementation of the SC/ST sub plan.

Taking a cue from Maharashtra, the Congress Government should immediately constitute the Nodal Committee for effective implentation of the Sub-plan for the benefit of SCs and STs, the Opposition parties demanded during Question Hour.

Earlier, members of the opposition parties were on their feet, dissatisfied with the replies of Social Welfare Minister P Subash Chandra Bosu and Tribal Welfare Minister D Redya Naik that the Committee would be formed after a visit by a study team to other neighbouring states. The two ministers detailed the steps being taken by the Government for the betterment of SCs and STs.

Sensing the mood of the house, Speaker K R Suresh Reddy adjourned the House for the tea-break.

When the House reassembled, the members of the Opposition parties rushed to the well of the House and staged a sit-in protest.

Following this, Dr Reddy made the announcement and said the Committee would meet every six months and review the implementation of the sub-plan.
