Vijayawada, July 24: Strongly condemning the Andhra Pradesh government's move to provide four per cent reservation to socially and educationally backward classes among Muslims, about 20 Akila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists attempted to disrupt counselling for students, who are seeking admission for 2007-2008, at Dr NTR University of Health Sciences (NTRUHS) here today.

Before barging into the counselling centre, the activists staged a dharna on the university premises for about 10 minutes, raising slogans against reservation to Muslims in educational institutions and government jobs.

The police later intervened and arrested the ABVP activists.

Medical counselling was also being held in four other centres in the state - Osmania University Campus, JNTU (Hyderabad), Andhra University Campus (Visakhapatnam) and SV University (Tirupati), university sources said.
