33 TDP MLAs suspended from Andhra Pradesh Assembly

Hyderabad, July 24 (UNI) Thirty three Telugu Desam Party legislators, including former Speaker Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, were suspended from the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for the day for obstructing the proceedings demanding an apology for 'objectionable remarks' by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy yesterday.

As soon as the House assembled today, the agitated TDP members rushed to the well of the House protesting against the Chief Minister's remarks, which they claimed was an 'insult' to all women.

Even as State Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy maintained that there was nothing 'unparliamentary or objectionable' in the remarks made by the Chief Minister, the TDP members staged a sit-in to press their demand.

Speaker K R Suresh Reddy repeatedly appealed the members to back to their seats assuring that he would allow them to raise the issue after question hour.

With no signs of restoration of order in the House, the Speaker named the TDP members.

The House adopted a resolution for their suspension moved by Agriculture Minister N Raghuveera Reddy, substituting for Legislative Affairs Minister K Rosaiah.

The suspended TDP members left the House raising slogans against the government.

The name of the TDP Legislator Party Deputy Leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who was not present was also included in the list.

Later, Mr Janardhan Reddy came to the Assemby and registered his protest for suspending him even without his not being there.

The speaker later removed his name from the list.
