TRS stages dharna for scrapping GO 34
Hyderabad, July 23 (UNI) Leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) today demanded that the Government immediately scrap GO34, stating that it would hamper the interests of farmers of the Telangana region.
The Legislators, led by floor leader K Vijaya Rama Rao, staged a dharna before the Gandhi Statue outside the Assembly after they were suspended from the House for stalling the proceedings, demanding the scrapping of the GO.
Talking to newspersons, Mr Rao said the Chief Minister's statement of providing irrigated water to 50 lakh acres was ridiculous. The Government was trying to divert the Krishna water to Rayalaseema and the Godavari Water to Coastal Andhra by ditching the farmers of the Telangana region.
He said there was no need for farmers of the Telangana region to go for the sprinkling system when there was sufficient Krishna and Godavari river waters available in the region.
Mr Nayani Narasimha Reddy alleged that the Government was providing water through canals to farmers in Andhra and Rayalaseema and allowing the sprinkling system in Telangana region. State Home Minister K Jana Reddy had written a letter to the Chief Minister on the implications of the GO 34.
He said the State Government had brought in some amendments to the GO 34 when some of the ruling Congress members had raised doubts about it. However, the TRS leaders demanded the immediate scrapping of the GO, instead of amendments.
The Congress MLAs, belonging to the Telangana region, should come forward to raise their voice against the G0. The farmers of the region would not tolerate the injustice done to them in future, he said, adding that the TRS would intensify its agitation on the matter.
