SP youth leader arrested

Akola, July 23 (UNI) The president of the Maharashtra unit of the SP's Yuvjan Sabha, Mukim Ahmad, has been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police here, and will be taken to Lucknow for further proceedings in a case relating to cheating in sand contracts, an Uttar Pradesh police official said here today.

He had been booked under section 420 and 406 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) along with two others including a woman, for criminal breach of trust, earlier on March 10.

He was arrested from his residence in Mandar apartment of Ramdas peth area here last evening, police said and added that he was accused of cheating villagers on the pretext of securing them sand contracts in Banaras district in Uttar Pradesh. He is believed to have extracted over Rs one crore from his victims, during the tenure of Samajwadi Party rule in Uttar Pradesh.

Police Station Officer of Bhelur G N Rai and other two police officials with the help of the local Akola police arrested the youth leader. The SP youth leader alongwith a woman and a youth used to stay at Dimond hotel at lucknow during the earlier regime of the SP, police added.
