People resents against Thermal Power Plant

Mysore, July 23 (UNI) The activists of the Chamalapura Thermal Plant Virodhi Raita Horata Samithi, opposing proposed 1000 MW power plant in Chamalapura in H D Kote Taluk in Mysore district threatened to intensify their agitation if state government failed to shun the project.

Addressing the protestors, who were on Rasta Roko agitation against the project, former minister and senior Congress leader Mr M Shivanna charged that the state government has ignored the adverse environment aspects of the project while sanctioning it.

He said that people who were on peaceful agitation for the past two months may resort to violent if state government was adamant in going ahead with the project. Thousands of farmers in many villages in the taluk will be displaced and would become refugees in their own land, he said.

Hundreds of vehicles were stranded due to the impact of the Road blockade in the busy H D Kote-Mysore road due to the agitaiton in which over 1000 people including women also participated.

The proposed Rs 5500 crore Chamalapura thermal Project was required over 3000 acres of land to generate over 1000 MW of power.
