Nitish urges PM for holding NDC meeting on poverty
Patna, Jul 23 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to hold a special meeting of National Development Council(NDC) on poverty issues.
Mr Kumar told newspersons here that the meeting zero in on lessening poverty from the society and assured of implementing the recomendations and suggestions made by noted economists and social activists of the country.
He said povertry had to be redefined and reassessed and the existing formula for tracing the poor needs to be changed immediately.
The government had put sincere efforts to rectify the anomalies in the BPL list, he added.
Mr Kumar requested the Prime Minister to take steps for holding the meeting of the NDC in order to provide the right to live with dignity to the poors.
To a query, he said the police department had been directed to probe the circumstances under which the police officer, accused in Bhagalpur riots was awarded for establishing communal harmony.
