NCC launches 'Each One Teach One' programme
New Delhi, July 23 (UNI) National Cadet Corps has embarked on a mission to spread literacy in collaboration with UNICEF and Human Resources Development (HRD) Ministry through youth literacy programme 'Each One Teach One'.
The aim of the mission is to augment national flagship education programme 'Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan' and ensure illiterate youth aged between 15-16 years, girls in particular, to reach functional literacy by utilising NCC cadet facilitators with teaching and community contact skills, an official statement said today.
As a pilot programme NCC would mobilise senior division and senior wing cadets as youth to youth facilitators and target 4,000 illiterate youth in four states. This would later be extended to other states across the country.
NCC would oversee development of bonding within pear group.
UNICEF would provide funds to the HRD Ministry, for it to make available books and stationery for the students, and technical support and training to the facilitators.
The ministry would also monitor standards achieved by the learners.
Defence Minister A K Antony officially launched the NCC-UNICEF partnership at a function in Delhi Cantonment here on Saturday.
