Minister orders inquiry into killing of Peacocks

Bangalore, July 23 (UNI) Karnataka Environment Minister C Chennigappa today said his department will conduct an inquiry into the killing of more than hundred peacocks by poisoning by a farmer at a village in Gadag taluk yesterday.

Replying to the issue raised by Mr Vatal Nagaraj of Vatal Kannada Cheuvali Paksha in the zero hour in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said the officers were on the spot to identify the accused, who killed the national birds by poisioning the foodgrains at Bale Hosur.

The farmer had resorted to kill the birds by mixing pesticides with the grains to protect his crops.

Several members expressing their concern over the killing of peacocks over past several days at the village, said it was a serious crime.
