Lakhs of rupees siphoned under vaccination programme

Mau, July 23 (UNI) Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the district is under the scanner after gross irregularities were detected in the utilisation of funds sanctioned for 'brain fever' vaccination programme.

Last year, the CMO was bestowed with the responsibility of purchasing the required material to carry out vaccination programme between May 23 and June 27, District Magistrate P Guru Prasad today told UNI.

He said on a complaint of misappropiation of Rs 20 lakh sanctioned for the programme, an official inquiry was initiated under the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and the treasurer.

The inquiry revealed siphoning of funds through fake bills and tally sheets.

The inquiry report has been sent to the state government and the CMO is being questioned for the same, Mr Prasad apprised.
