HC asks CBI to arrest lawyer for beating wife
Chandigarh, July 23 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court judge, Justice Uma Nath Singh today directed the CBI to arrest and admit advocate Tahar Singh, a member of the High Court Bar Association to mental hospital, Agra.
While issuing the direction, the Judge observed that the conduct of the accused was prima facie the worst case of mental disorder.
The advocate has since been arrested by the CBI and is being moved to Agra as per the high court orders.
Justice Singh took suo moto notice of case registered against the advocate by his own wife alleging beatings and torture. She teaches at a college here.
The case has also been transfered for investigation to CBI.
Meanwhile, the Bar Association is expected to meet tomorrow to consider the situation and the steps to be taken in this context.
Meanwhile, lawyers held demonstation outside the C B I Office here tonight to protest against the arrest of their colleague.
Mr Anmol Rattan Singh Sidhu President of the High Court Bar Association said that the lawyers would meet tomorrow to decide the next course of action against the High Court verdict.
