Division Bench to hear case on smart card tender

Kochi, July 23 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today referred to a Division Bench two cases regarding tenders given to a private agency for converting registration and licence book into smart cards.

Justice S Siri Jagan referred to a Bench for the petitions filed by one Sandeep from Kakkanad near here and Zodiac.com solution from New Delhi when they came up for hearing.

The petition filed by Sandeep sought a direction to the state to strictly comply with the Motor Vehicles Act and charge fees from the public for issuance of ''smart cards''.

He also sought a direction to the government to cancel the tender for smart optical card-based Registration certificates and the decision of awarding the tender to Zodiac.com solution and others.

He further sought an order to look into the technology used by an independent agency to make 'smart cards'.
