Hisar, July 23 (UNI) Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Managing Director Vijayendra Kumar today stressed on demand side management (DSM) for improvement in power position in Haryana.

Mr Vijayendra Kumar while speaking in a prize distribution function held here today said, "DSM has potential to address the needs of filling the gap between demand and supply of electricity and providing uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers at reduced rates.

The Managing Director annonced that the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) had a big demand side management plan of Rs 160 crores for the current financial year.

He said that Impetus to DSM activities in Haryana was required as the lapse between peak demand and lean demand in the State was high and due to increased load during peak demand hours, the power utilities were compelled to impose power cuts. The key objective of the DSM is to manage the load in such a way that the load curve is flattened, He added.

Demand side Management in Haryana can rationally be implemented by changing use of electricity to maximum energy efficiency, changing electricity habits of consumers and using energy-efficient appliances, equipment and buildings, Mr Vijayendra Kumar said.

He said that the domestic use of electricity was main factor causing extra-ordinary rise in load curve.

"Change of customer mind set is needed to overcome the barriers of consumers' behaviour in way of effective implementation of demand side management and energy efficiency," he said.

"The DHBVN's campaign for replacing all incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) is proving to be a very effective and the mind set of consumers is changing fast," the Managing Director said.

"Most of the households and commercial institutes use incandescent lamps and low efficiency fluorescent tube lights (FTL) for lighting.

Promotion of compact fluorescent lamps (CFL), efficient fluorescent tube lights with electronic ballast can contribute significantly in reduction of electricity consumption and thereby lowering peak demands," He said.
