Cabinet's 'good news' saddens docs

Aizawl, July 23 (UNI) The latest Cabinet decision, which created pay scale parity among the government employees, has failed to please the entire community as the government doctors have expressed disappointment over the decision.

A few days after the Cabinet's ''good news'' was announced by Personal and Administrative Reforms Minister Tawnluia, the Mizoram Government Doctors' Association today called the pay scale parity as ''disparity'' and ''injustice'' as far as the government doctors were concerned, as the senior medical officers had been placed under the once-equivalent under-secretaries/executive engineers.

Following the reconstruction of government employees pay scale, the Mizoram government will have to pay additional Rs 57 lakh annually.''While the Cabinet had no problem in reconstructing promotional grades and pay scale for other services, letting us to wait for another four months for cadre review was what we could not accept,'' the doctors said.

''Whereas other services are given Rs 8,000 to Rs 12,000 in the first promotion, we are given Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000 for the same, which is injustice,'' they lamented.

''As our wait for the government's decision with patience and obedience, without any agitations, has borne no fruits, we may be in a situation where we would not avoid agitations,'' the doctors threatened.

The Association will have emergency general body meeting today to chalk out their next course of action.
