BJP urges Speaker not to consider Muslim reservation bill

Hyderabad, Jul 23 (UNI) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders today urged the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker K R Suresh Reddy not to consider the proposed Bill on caste-based reservations for the Muslims in the State.

The BJP leaders, led by its State President Bandaru Dattatreya, today submitted a memorandum to the Speaker in this regard. Alleging that the reservations on the basis of the caste was unconstitutional, they said this was confirmed by the Supreme Court and the legal experts in the country.

In the memorandum, Mr Dattatreya alleged that the Congress Government was resorting to vote bank politics by appeasing the Muslims, which would create problems in the State.

He said the Muslim reservation issue was pending in the court and its not proper on the part of the Government to take up the Bill in the House.

The BJP leader said creating reservations for Muslims would hamper the interests of the Backward classes in the State. The Speaker assured the delegation that he would look into the matter.
