Another batch of pilgrims leaves for Amarnath pilgrimage

Jammu, July 23 (UNI) A batch consisting of 997 pilgrims today left for the Pehalgam and Baltal base camps from where they would leave for the holy cave shrine of Lord Amarnath in the South Kashmir region.

This group of pilgrims is the 22nd batch paying visit to the holy shrine, official sources said here.

The pilgrims under strict security survellience left from the base camp of Maulana Azad Memorial in a convoy of 36 vehicles which includes 22 buses and 14 Light Motor Vehicles, around 0510 hrs. The convoy is heading for Nunwan in Pahalgam and Baltal yatra camps and include 582 men, 145 women and 17 children along with 253 sadhus, sources said.

Since July 2, the total number of pilgrims visiting the Amarnath holy shrine from Jammu base camp has swelled to 39,763 which include this batch, the sources added.

On an average, 4000-4500 pigrims have been paying obeisance to the ice lingam at the holy cave shrine at Amarnath every day.
