Melbourne, July 22: Even as the talks of freeing jailed Indian doctor Mohamed Haneef is gaining momentum, chances are that he might face new charges of plotting an attack on iconic building in Queensland.

Mohammed Haneef, 27, was arrested on July 2 by the Australian Federal Police while trying to board a flight to Bangalore.

Haneef was charged for complicity in the failed UK bombings but was bailed by a Brisbane Magistrate for the '' thin'' evidence. The Australian Immigration Minister had cancelled Haneef's Temporary Business Entry subclass 457 visa on 'character' grounds.

As the case is progressing towards a farce status, allegations are being raised about Haneef's involvement in planning an attack on the landmark building on the Gold Coast.

The Australian Federal Police have refused to confirm or deny reports that it is investigating these new terrorism-related allegations.

Mohamed Haneef's solicitor Peter Russo has reacted angrily to such 'leaks' published in a Brisbane newspaper.

Peter Russo has also expressed total ignorance whether Australian Federal Police (AFP) were investigating into the reported allegations of Haneef's plotting an attack on Queensland's landmark high-rise building.

''The problem with it is no one wants to claim it, but I'm more concerned about the sinister tone of how the info has come out,'' Russo told Australian Broadcasting Corporation today.

''A link to a tall building and a link to September 11 can only do one thing in the public arena, and that's create fear,'' he added.

The new allegations are based on the reports suggesting that the Australian investigators have seized documents from the incarcerated medic's house indicating that there was a plot to attack a Gold Coast building and its foundations.

Meanwhile, Haneef's cousin Imran Siddiqui has flown into Brisbane overnight to extend support to the jailed doctor.

''Physically, a person to be here is very important. I have to see how the legal proceedings are going on, and see if we can strengthen the legal approach,'' Imran told reporters soon after landing in Australia.
