Punjab implements Edusat project

Chandigarh, July 21 (UNI) With a view to imparting qualitative education at school level, the Punjab Government is implementing the EDUSAT project in various educational institutions.

Education Minister Upinderjit Kaur said the Punjab government had allocated Rs 12 crore for the project which was being implemented by the Punjab Information and Communication Technology Education Society (PICTES).

The EDUSAT programme was being implemented in various educational institutions under the Departments of Technical Education, Higher Education, School Education and Medical Education.

The Minister said the EDUSAT system would prove an asset in providing the teaching and learning environment in educational institutions. It would broadcast educational content to cover the entire gamut of education at school and college level.

Even teachers could be imparted training through this system, she added.

Dr Upinderjit Kaur said Satellite Interactive Terminals (SITs) had been provided at the respective educational institutions for the 2-way video and audio interactivity to enhance the quality of education.

She said the EDUSAT programme would be an important tool for improving science education in the schools. Numeric skills and scientific knowledge was the key to success in the knowledge economy.

The Minister said the state government would provide all necessary infrastructure for promotion of education and facilities to enable the teaching faculty to give their best to the students so that they could excel in the studies.
