JK Lakshmi Q1 net soars 76 per cent

New Delhi, July 21: Leading cement maker JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd today said its net profit had shot up by 76 per cent to Rs 68 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2007 against Rs 39 crore during the same quarter in the previous fiscal.

The company's sales also registered a 43 per cent growth at Rs 312 crore during Q1 FY07 from Rs 218 crore during the corresponding quarter a year ago.

The Earning per Share (EPS) for the quarter has also gone up to 11.99 against 7.73 in the corresponding quarter of previous year.

''The successful commissioning and fully operational of second phase of the 36MW Captive Thermal Power Plant resulted in considerable saving in the company's power cost and improvement in profitability,'' said company Director Shailendra Chouksey in a statement.

JKLC has drawn plans to double its capacity to seven million tonnes in the course of next three years.
