Irrigation projects to be completed within 2 years: CM

Jurala, Andhra Pradesh, July 21 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today said the ongoing irrigation projects in Mahaboobnagar district would be completed within two years.

Talking to newspersons, after conducting prayers for the Krishna river at Priyadarshini Jurala Irrigation Project Dam this afternoon, he said the ongoing projects like Bhima lift irrigation scheme, Nettempadu lift irrigation scheme, Kalwakurthyu lift irrigation scheme and Koil Sagar lift irrigation scheme would be completed in two years.

He said these projects would cost Rs 6113 crore and the government had already spent Rs 2,407 crore during the last three years.

He said the remaining amount would be spent on the projects and the work on these projects was in full swing.

The government was able to provide irrigated water for agriculture purpose from Krishna river through the Jurala, Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects for the fourth consecutive year as sufficient flood waters were reaching these projects.

He said the government had sanctioned Rs 78 crore to solve the problem of drinking water in Mahaboobnagar city, Narayanpet and Gadwal.

The work on these projects would be started very soon and it would be completed within one year to permanently solve the drinking water problems.

Under Priyadarshini Jurala Project, an irrigation potential of 1.02 lakh acres was created and 17.84 TMC of Krishna water was allocated for this project by the Krishna Water Tribunal.

About 87 villages benefitted due to this project. For Rajolibanda Diversion scheme, 17.10 TMC water was allocated for the project to provide irrigation potential to 87,500 acres of land.

Later, the Chief Minister participated in a review meeting with the district officials.
