BBMP orders inquiry into lift failure in mall

Bangalore, July 21 (UNI) The city corporation has ordered an inquiry into a incident in which a lift crashed in a upmarket shopping mall yesterday injuring five people.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner S Subramanya today ordered a preliminary inquiry into the incident in which the injured included Mukesh Ambani's niece Neha.

The lift 'Himalaya' in Garuda Mall crashed from a height of 40 feet when three groups of families were on way to reach a multiplex cinema.

''It is quite evident there was deficiency in maintaining public safety. City Planning Joint Secretary will submit the report during the next 24 hours,'' Mr Subramanya said in a statement.

A six-year-old boy was killed two weeks ago when he fell from the fourth floor central atrium.
