"We only sought Pratibha's clarification on the allegationss" : BJP

New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) The BJP, which had carried on a sustained campaign against UPA's Presidential nominee Pratibha Patil, the BJP today said that the party had only sought her clarification on the matters scooped up by the Congressmen themselves.

Talking to mediapersons, BJP President Rajnath Singh said that one should be clear that it was not the BJP which had manufactured the allegations,'' be it her support to her brother facing allegations of involvement in murder of a district Congress functionary in Jalgaon or her family members drying up the bank deposits of the family run Cooperative Bank.'' These were the allegations that were aired by Congressmen and the BJP only sought Mrs Patil's clarifications,'' he noted.

Asked if this would mean that the BJP would accept Mrs Patil as President if she were to win elections, he initially said he would answer all these questions tomorrow evening when the results were expected to be out.

To a question if the BJP would attend the swearing in ceremony, he shot back ''why not? We will be there.'' Answering questions about the NDA allies, he said the NDA was in touch with all its allies especially the Shiv Sena on the Vice Presidential elections which preferred to side with UPA nominee in the Presidential polls as it was an issued involving ''Maratha pride.''
