Three hurt, twin grenade attacks near Dal Lake in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 20 (UNI) At least three people were wounded when suspected militants hurled a hand grenade toward a parking place on the busy Boulevard Road near the banks of the famed Dal Lake here tonight, police said.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Aziz Khan said three people (all taxi drivers) were wounded in the grenade attack on the parking place at Tanghbagh (Chinar Bagh) on the Boulevard Road, mostly frequented by tourists, near the world famous Dal Lake here at around 2015 hrs.

He said among the wounded taxi drivers, two were from Jammu and one from Kashmir. The injured have been rushed to the Sri Maharaja Hari Singh hospital here.

The windowpanes of three taxis were damaged while a tyre of another vehicle burst due to the impact of the blast.

Security in the area has been tightened after the explosion.

Earlier, suspected militants had lobbed a hand grenade toward a hotel housing the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel on the busy Boulevard Road near the banks of the famed Dal Lake this evening, which exploded without causing any damage, police said.

They said the militants hurled the grenade on Hotel Boulevard, housing the headquarters of CRPF's 114 battalion.

However, no loss of life or injury to anyone was reported in the blast, police added.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
