Three dead as truck hits auto in South Delhi

New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) Three men, travelling in an autorickshaw, were crushed to death after being sandwiched between two trucks in New Friends Colony area of South Delhi early today.

The incident took place around 0200 hrs near Sukhdev Vihar police post in NFC, when the truck moving ahead of the auto screeched to a sudden halt, leading to the auto banging head-on into it, said a police officer.

Immediately afterwards, the truck behind the auto rammed into it, leaving all the three occupants -- Lal Babu (35), Umesh Paswan (26) and Sanjay Pandey (40) -- dead.

All of them hailed from Bihar.

The auto, being driven by Ganesh Nagar resident Umesh, was going towards Ashram.

Of the two others, Lal Babu, who lived in Jaitpur, was the owner of the auto while Sanjay was his friend who had come to Delhi two days ago in search of a job.

Postmortem was held at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).

The driver of the truck is absconding.
