Teenagers detained for plotting kidnapping drama

Varanasi, July 20 (UNI) Two teenagers who plotted a kidnapping drama for exacting Rs 2.5 lakh from parents were detained by the police in the Sigra area here today.

Vishal Rai and Rahul Rai, students of XIth and IXth standard respectively at the Kamalapati Inter College here have been detained for plotting the kidnapping of Vishal, police said.

Both Vishal and Rahul are natives of neighbouring Ghazipur district and are also studying at a coaching institute in Varanasi.

The mastermind of the fake kidnapping Vishal asked Rahul to call his brother in Allahabad and inform about Vishal being kidnapped by criminals today for a ransom of Rs 2.5 lakh. After repeated pressure a hesitant Rahul called Vishal's brother as per the plan this evening.

Vishal's brother later informed his family in Ghazipur about the kidnapping, following which the entire matter was reported to police at the Sigra police station here.

Suspecting something wrong in the entire matter, the police started interrogating Rahul, who later spilled the beans.

Later, the police also detained Vishal for planning the fake kidnapping of self.

The family of both the teenagers have been informed about the matter and further investigations were on.
