Sultry weather prevails in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 20 (UNI) Sultry weather conditions prevailed at most places in the plains following rain at isolated places in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh during the past 24 hours.

The sky remained partially cloudy at certain places as the Sun played hide and seek during the day.

Nangal Dam site in Punjab recorded 3.1 mm rainfall overnight while there was no rainfall activity in Haryana.

However, light to moderate rain lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, overnight. Heavy rain pounded Dharamsala, headquarters of Kangra district, turning it the wettest place in the state, recording 106.8 mm downpour.

Naudan measured 6.5 mm, Una 6.4 mm, Pandoh 4.5 mm, Berthin 4.2 mm, Solang Nala 4.0 mm, Kahu 2.2 mm and Dhundi 2.0 mm rainfall.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas experienced partially cloudy weather with the Sun occasionally peeping through the skies during the day. Humid conditions prevailed in the city which recorded the maximum humidity at 80 per cent and the minimum at 49 per cent.

Parts of Jammu and Kashmir were also lashed by moderate rain with Jammu recording 7.7 mm rain till this morning, followed by Bhasoli measuring 2.6 mm and Patti 2.4 mm.

The Weather Office said that light to moderate rain or thundershowers may occur at few places in Himachal Pradesh and isolated places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.

It predicted increase in rainfall activity from July 22 onwards.
