Strict action in sexual harassment of girl students: Minister

Bangalore, July 20 (UNI) Karnataka Primary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti today informed the Legislative Council that stringent action, including dismissal, would be taken against guilty teachers and other staff involved in sexual harassment of girl students in both private and state-run education institutions.

Replying to Ms Vimalagouda (BJP) during the Question Hour, the Minister said as many as 22 incidents of sexual harassment against girl students were reported during 2005-07 in the state.

In one such incident, a teacher was suspended from service while others were facing court cases.

Outlining the measures taken by the government against sexual harassment, Mr Horatti informed that a Disciplinary Authority (DA) had been formed in the Primary Education Department to deal with such cases.
