Sonia greets Sufis on the occasion of Urs
New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today greeted the devotees of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti on the occasion of the annual "Urs" of the most eminent Sufi saint.
Pointing out that egalitarian practices were a feature of the Sufi tradition, she said in a statement that participation in the Urs should induce each one of us to emulate his example and contribute to public service.

was
an
occasion
of
great
significance
in
the
calendar
of
the
Faithful
who
belonged
to
all
faiths
and
religions
and
were
united
in
their
reverence
to
him
and
his
teachings.
"No
better
example
of
the
spiritual
unity
fo
the
Indian
people
can
be
cited." She
said
the
Sufis
were
people
who
had
preferred
God
to
everything
else
and
who
attained
proximity
to
the
almighty
through
simple,
ascetic
living
and
through
service
to
mankind,
particularly
the
poor
and
the
drowntrodden.
"It
is
this
aspect
of
their
teaching
that
has
endeared
them
to
the
public.'
