''There is a need for greater interaction and synergy in CSR activities among different corporates and various sections of the society,'' he said while speaking at the third Annual General Meeting of the Indian arm of the United Nations movement today.

Mr Sharma, who is the President of the Indian Global Compact Society (GCS), said that the society will push for proactive role of Indian corporates for adoption and implementation of corporate citizenship practices.

He asked the corporations to suggest methodology to turn CSR activities in India to a movement like any other movement viz. quality, environment, and safety.

These organisations include a number of corporate giants like ONGC, Infosys, Tata, Wipro and Thermax. The Indian GCS is leading the Asian effort towards this UN movement. It is planning to hold a global conference involving all the SAARC countries in January 2008, to take the movement forward among the Asian nations.

The society acts as an apex level nodal agency, representing various Indian corporate bodies and institutions who are committed to the ten principles of United Nation's Global Compact principles on human rights, labour standard, environment and anti-corruption.
