Seminar on Cyber vigilance

Mumbai, July 20 (UNI) Installing firewalls and intrusion detection devices can ensure network security to some extent, according to cyber experts.

Mr Vijay Mukhi, Chief Espionage Officer of the Mumbai police, was speaking at a seminar on ''Security Development Lifecycle' organised by Indian Merchants' Chamber today.

He said ''Security breach impacts businesses severely. About 70 per cent of all security breaches is due to software defects arising from technical and technoogical flaws.'' Others who spoke on the occasion included MIEL e-Security Chairman and MD M N Kutty Nair, Infrasoft Technologies MD Hanuman Tripathi, MIEL e-Security Director Anuj Gupta, a release stated.

Mr Kutty Nair said ''Enterprises in India are waking up to the need to face security challenges, resulting in a high growth prospects for internet security (IS) market.'' Mr Hanuman Tripathi focussed on the need for security measures in internet banking, ATMs and conventional banking systems.

Mr Anuj Gupta, on the other hand, said effective devices were available the market to contain information security breaches.

''Security breaches can occur at desktops, work stations. Such breaches can be minimized undertaking security measures,'' he added.
