SAD, BJP announce campaign commitees for MC polls

Chandigarh, July 20 (UNI) The ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and its alliance partner BJP will utilise the services of its senior leaders during the Municipal Corporation elections to be held next month.

SAD Acting President Sukhbir Singh Badal today released the list of the campaign committees for the cities of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala where MC polls are to be held. The list includes senior SAD members including former union minister Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, veteran leader Jagdev Singh Talwandi and a few members of the state cabinet.

Revenue Minister Ajit Singh Kohar will head the 19-member campaign committee for Jalandhar which would also include Education minister Upinderjit Kaur. Mr Talwandi will head the 17-member committee for Ludhiana which would include Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.

Likewise Rural Development Minister Ranjit Singh Brahmapura would head the 22-member committee for Amritsar. This committee would include three ministers-Bikram Singh Majithia, Adesh Partap Singh Kairon and Janmeja Singh Sekhon.

The 18-member committee for Patiala would include Mr Dhindsa and Cooperatives Minister Capt Kanwaljit Singh.

In a statement Mr Badal said that all senior leaders of the party including party office bearers, MPs, MLAs and district Presidents had been assigned specific duties in the poll campaign. He said that senior leaders of Gurdaspur, Amritsar and Ferozepur will campaign in Amritsar City.

Similarly senior leaders of Ludhiana, Moga, Faridkot, Barnala and Muktsar will campaign in Ludhiana. The leaders from Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar, Sangrur, Bathinda and Mansa will campaign in Patiala city.

All leaders of the four districts of Doaba belt will campaign in Jalandhar.

The BJP too has released a list of the state level campaign committee which includes four former state presidents and three ministers. This committee would be headed by state BJP chief Rajinder Singh Bhandari.

The BJP also announced a five-member disciplinary action committee to be headed by Balbir Chand Kapila, who will be its Chairman.
