PM approves constitution of IMG on major steel investments
New Delhi, July 20 (UNI) The Prime Minister today approved the constitution of a nine-member Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) to monitor and coordinate issues concerning major steel investments in the country.
The members of the IMG will have Secretary, Ministry of Steel as the Chairman and the other members include Secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Member, Railway Board (Traffic), Ministry of Railways, Secretary, Department of Shipping, Secretary, Department of Road Transport and Highways, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, Secretary, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Chief Secretary of concerned state governments, Member and Joint Secretary, Ministry of Steel as Convener.
Any other Ministry and state government may be requested to participate as and when considered necessary.
The terms of reference (ToR) of the IMG would be to review and coordinate measures for early completion of the major steel capacities and to address various problems concerning: a) Infrastructure constraints related to ports, rail, road network.
b) Availability of iron ore and coal.
c) Speedy environmental clearance for project site as well as for iron ore and coal mining activities.
d) Availability of land, water resources and issues concerning rehabilitation.
e) Any other item concerned with the major steel investments in the country.
The meeting of the IMG will be held at regular intervals, at least once a quarter.
In case of inability of a member to attend the meeting of IMG, an officer not below the rank of Joint Secretary to Government of India may represent.
