PDP to celebrate foundation day on July 28

Srinagar, July 20 (UNI) The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a key ruling coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir, will organise a series of functions across the state from July 28 to commemorate the party's foundation day.

The party was founded on July 28, 1999 with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed being its first president.

According to PDP's Political Secretary Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, the party has chalked out an extended celebration programme.

He said a series of public meetings would be held in the Kashmir valley, Jammu and Ladakh provinces of the state for one week, starting July 28.

Senior party leaders would address the functions. The main function would be held at the PDP headquarters at Maulana Azad Road here on July 28, Peerzada Hussain added.

The party leaders would address public meetings at all district headquarters to highlight the policies, programmes and achievements of the PDP at the grassroots level.

Formed in 1999, the PDP won 16 seats in the 2002 state Assembly elections and at present has 19 legislators in the Lower House and nine MLCs in the Upper House besides two MPs, Mehbooba Mufti and Sardar T S Bajwa.
