PDF MLCs stage walkout in AP Council

Hyderabad, July 20 (UNI) Seven Legislative Council (MLCs) members of the Progressive Democratic Front (PDF), elected under the teachers' constituencies category, today staged a walkout demanding that the government withdraw the decision of handing over government schools to the Non-Government Organisations (NGOs).

Dissatisfied with the reply of School Education Minister Damodar Rajnarasimha on the issue, the PDF MLCs staged a walkout and demanded to halt the transfer of government schools to NGOs in the state.

Talking to newspersons here, PDF Chairman Ch Ramaiah alleged that the government was trying to privatise government schools.

The government's decision would not serve the purpose.

Earlier, replying in the House, the minister said the motive behind the involvement of the NGOs in school education was to improve the condition of the schools. The NGOs would only cooperate with the government and schools, he added.
