Non-Mizos remain indoor for fear of backlash
Aizawl, July 20 (UNI) The Non-Mizo residents, mainly the plain people, apprehending backlash have been staying indoors following a murder of Mizo youths by miscreants in Asom's Bagha area.
Kapliana, 26, and Lallianthanga, 30, of Vairengte in Mizoram were travelling to Asom on Wednesday in an auto-rickshaw when the miscreants attacked them and Kapliana died on the spot.
Lallianthanga who was injured is now being treated at the hospital, sources today said.
Earlier there was a rumour that Lallianthanga had died.
Meanwhile, the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students' Association) and Mizo Students' Union have 'requested' the Non-Mizo residents to remain indoors till July 25.
Police said stranded travellers were taken to nearby Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School for their safety. Only after the travellers and vehicles were escorted safely out of Mizoram that the body was handed over to the family in Vairengte yesterday.
Law enforcers have been trying hard in Vairengte and Aizawl to ensure that no violent retaliation takes place. No such incidents have taken place till filing this report, except the curfew imposed against the non-Mizos.
Home minister Tawnluia, who is also in the department of personal&administrative reforms, refused to comment on the present situation.
Various organisations of Vairengte have demanded Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia for the deceased and Rs 5 lakh for the injured person from the Asom government.
