N E State capitals under BSUP scheme
Shillong, Jul 20 (UNI) All the state capitals in the North Eastern region has been identified for coverage under the Sub-Mission on Basic Services to the Urban Poor (BSUP) under the Ministry of Housing&Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Under the BSUP, which is a sub-mission under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), emphasis is given for integrated development of slums through projects for providing shelter, basic services and other related civic amenities with a view to providing utilities to the urban poor.
Accordingly, the approved projects include physical amenities and related infrastructure such as water supply, sewerage, storm water drain, roads, multi-purpose community centres and parks.
The Sub-Mission would seek for convergence of services in fields of education, health and social security and also ensure adequate investments of funds to fulfill deficiencies in the basic services to the urban poor.
The targeted beneficiaries under BSUP are slum dwellers/urban poor. While a minimum 12% beneficiary contribution is stipulated under the Mission, in the case of SC/ST/OBC and other weaker sections, it is 10 per cent.
