MoU signed for setting up of CETP in HP

Shimla, July 20 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh government and Doon Infrastructure today inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the setting up of a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) at Baddi in Solan district of the state.

Additional Chief Secretary Parminder Mathur said the MoU was signed between Industries Under Secretary Dilsukh and company's Director Vijay K. Arora here.

The plant, which was proposed to be set up at Baddi, would help in effective discharge of industrial effluent by properly treating it according to approved norms of the Pollution Control Board, she said.

Ms Mathur said the state government would lease out land for setting up of this facility, which would provide employment 70 per cent people of the state.

The announcement of the special package of incentives for industries in the state by the Centre has led to a spurt in industrial activities in the state, she said.

She said Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh region of the state has been in the forefront of this growth in industrial activities.

She said for the safe disposal of toxic waste, the state government has already leased out land to another company Shivalik Solid Waste Management for the setting up of a hazardous waste management facility.

The work for setting up of this facility has already commenced, she added.

Industries Director Anil Khachi said the concept of CETP was conceived to provide single point outlet for waste water from industries, adding this gained importance with the rapid industrialisation for sustainable development of industrial areas.
