Moser Baer Home Entertainment Division enters Eastern market

Kolkata, July 20 (UNI) One would no longer have to go to the shops to purchase CDs and DVDs of movies in any language, but it would henceforth be found right at the doorstep a la ice cream vendors.

Moser Baer, leading manufacturers and developers of removable data storage media, will start selling DVDs and CDs through such vending machines in Kolkata, for the first time,.

Launching its Bengali home videos in the Eastern region, Moser Baer COO Dhanajayan said, ''We have launched about 7,500 film titles, produced till date, in all major Indian languages and are trying to include some more. About 75 Bengali titles have been launched by the company which sells DVDs at a market price of Rs 34 and CDs at Rs 28.'' The company ventured into the home entertainment market in January this year. Started with an initial investment of Rs 500 crore, the company would launch 50 titles every month.

''The core area of the company would be content development, marketing and distribution,'' Mr Dhananjayan added.

India has over 30 million DVDs and VCDs users which is growing at the rate of 25 per cent every year.

''Currently, Moser Baer is the first public limited company with a share of 40 per cent,'' the COO claimed.

Talking about future plans, Mr Dhanajayan said they would soon be producing movies in Hindi with 'Saurya' being the first movie to be released by the company this year. The movie stars top Bollywood actors Rahul Bose and Esha Deol.

''Moser Baer's home entertainment division which started with Tamil films, is now a library to all 12 major indian languages, including Bhojpuri,'' the COO added.
