Monsoon fury claims 2 more lives in Kozhikode, toll rises to 21
Kozhikode, July 20 (UNI) The toll in rain-related incidents in monsoon-battered Kozhikode district of Kerala rose to 21 with the recovery of two more bodies today.
District Administration sources said the bodies of Usman, 38, and Sivadasn (32), who drowned, were recovered from Thazhekkad village and Olavanna in the district this morning.
Meanwhile, the sources said nearly 2,000 people, evacuated from low-lying areas, were taken to 70 relief camps set up at various parts.
Efforts were being made to provide the camp inmates with adequate food and other amenities, they said.
They said personnel of the the National Disaster Response Force, which arrived from Coimbatore, were touring the district to provide assistance to the needy.
The authorities had formed 15 teams, comprising senior officials, to monitor the operations, they added.
