HC reserves order on Turban case
Chandigarh, July 20 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today reserved the judgement on the petition seeking directions to the Union goverment to protect the fundamental rights of its citizen in India and abroad in the context of restriction imposed on wearing of turban by Sikh students in schools in France.
The petitioner, Chandigarh-based Singh Legal Foundation through its chairman Dr M S Rahi, had also filed a contempt petition against Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar for failing to give proper reply to the writ petition filed almost two years back.
In its reply filed by P M Meena, Joint Secretary in the ministry of External Affairs, the Union Government spoke of sincere efforts being made by it in this regard with the French government.
However, Dr Rahi wanted recourse to international forum like international court of justice and UN Council for Human Rights to intervene in the matter of ban on turban.
The division bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Justice Mahesh Grover today reserved its order.
