HC directs Air India to draft scheme for workers group
Chennai, July 20 (UNI) Madras High Court today ordered Air India Ltd to frame a scheme for regularisation of services of a group of retrenched workers.
A Division Bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharmarao and S Palanivelu gave the directive on a petition filed by E Paranthaman and 12 others in the court on July 18 seeking WritMandamus to Air India for a regularising their services.
The workers submitted they were employed by Air India to clean the seats in the aircraft, arrange blankets and for disposing waste.
They were appointed on daily wages for a 90-day period. The company would terminate their services on the expiry of the term and again call for applicants from the Employment Exchange.
The petitioners submitted they lost the jobs after 90 days and applied afresh thereby losing seniority.
The company employed workmen for short duration to deny them the benefits of permanent employment, they claimed.
