Chandigarh, July 20 (UNI) In order to have proper control of street lightThe Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has decided to install automatic street light control device with integrated metering of street light connections. While giving this information here today a spokesman of the Nigam said that for this, all the street light connections will be provided with dedicated distribution transformers of the capacity varying from 10 KVA to 25 KVA, corresponding to sanctioned load.

He said that at present the street light connections in urban areas were being fed through conventional three phase five wire system running through the general purpose transformer and there was no effective control of the switching operation of street lights.

Under its Demand Side Management (DSM) activities, street lighting has been envisaged as the maximum potential area of electricity conservation.

Under the new system, transformers of equivalent load capacity of both single phase and three phase would be installed exclusively for street light connections. Under no circumstances the dedicated transformer used would be more than 25 KVA capacity.

The transformers would be of high quality and carrying three star label of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The dedicated transformers for street lighting shall be setup at the load centre and the length of low tension supply system will not be more than 1000 feet on either side.

Armoured cable of the size suitable to the load of street light connections shall be used for extending the supply to the street light points. The connection arrangements of the street light points would be such that every street light point is connected to alternate phases of supply.
