Former SP MLA's gambling racket busted, 10 held

Mainpuri, July 20 (UNI) Police have busted a gambling racket being run by former Samajwadi Party MLA Updesh Singh Chauhan alias Khalifa in Bebar town here.

At least 10 gamblers were arrested in the late last night raid on the former house, Police Superintendent Ashok Kumar said addressing a news conference here today.

However, Khalifa, his two sons and over 10 others managed to escape the police dragnet.

The raid followed a tip-off, Mr Kumar informed.

As many as 42 cases of murder under the Gangster Act and the National Security Act (NSA) are pending against Khalifa.

A manhunt had been launched to arrest the former legislator, who had represented the Bhogaon assembly seat.
