Export Promotion Centre to boost chikan trade

Lucknow, July 20 (UNI) The emblem of Lucknow's culture - the chikan embroidery art is to receive a big boost with the decision of establishing an Export Promotion Centre (EPC) exclusively for chikan industry in the Uttar Pradesh capital.

Minister of state (independent charge) for small scale industry, Badshah Singh today said this project, estimating to cost Rs 73.15 had been sanctioned.

Chikan Industry Export Promotion Centre would operate from the headquarters of UP Export Corporation at Moti Mahal here.

It will be equipped with a design studio as well as machines for prototype and job work.

Apart from this, it will also have a library and a data bank along with provision for conducting training programmes for skill enhancement and export related workshops.
